Living “fancy-free” appealed to them. Pat and Ron Ekstrom, former residents of suburban Frankfort, moved to GreenFields senior living community in Geneva late this past summer. The couple had considered moving to a senior living community for several years. “We looked at quite a few. One was very close to our home, and some of our friends had started moving in,” said Pat. “But we’d been babysitting for our grandchildren who live in Geneva and loved this area. We wanted to be close to them. That made the decision easy. The kids love coming to see us here.”
Ron said living in a Life Plan Community with independent living, assisted living, memory care, rehabilitation and skilled care appealed to him. “Having all levels of care available under one roof is the ideal way of preparing for possible changes in our health needs,” he said.
Ron added that they’re enjoying the amenities available at GreenFields. “Having everything taken care of and being able to go off and do everything we want is immensely appealing. I can be doing things that interest me and not spend all my time maintaining my house,” he said.
The Ekstroms said that the staff and residents are exceptionally friendly. “Everyone has gone out of their way to welcome us,” said Ron. “We meet a lot of people, especially at meals. Sometimes our meals take an hour and a half or two because we’re so busy visiting.”
Pat noted, “It’s wonderful here. I feel like I’m going to college again. Everyone’s new, around the same age, and there are always people interested in doing the same things.”
