Late last month, five veterans who are residents of GreenFields of Geneva, joined 35 other veterans and Rosies (referring to Rosie the Riveter) on a five-day trip to War Memorials in Washington D.C. Through an initiative called VetRoll, the veterans visited the WWII Memorial, Korean, Vietnam, and National Marine Corps War Memorials, Lincoln Memorial, Arlington National Cemetery and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. On the bus trip back to the Chicago area, the group stopped in Dayton, Ohio to visit the Wright-Patterson AFB Air Museum. To date, 1,525 veterans and Rosies from 32 states have participated in this unforgettable journey.
Veterans have an active presence at GreenFields, where they are a much-revered group. Regular programs for the veterans include veterans honor roll and Veteran of the Month, VA benefit discussions, an annual Memorial Day service and annual Veteran Mess Hall Breakfast. Additionally, veterans from GreenFields have participated in six Honor Flights over the past several years. Currently, more than 60 veterans currently live at GreenFields.
