Residents and Staff at GreenFields: Friendly and Fascinating

The first time she set foot inside her apartment at GreenFields of Geneva was on the day she moved in. “I’d seen pictures, and my daughter had researched and looked at different apartments for me,” said Susanne Ferris. “I am delighted with the choice. It’s two bedrooms and is well lit and spacious. It’s close to the elevator, and that’s convenient with Katie (her beloved dog). I’m very pleased.”

Ferris was living in suburban Richmond, Virginia, in a 55+ neighborhood and decided she wanted to be closer to family. She also wanted a more carefree and active lifestyle. “I like to be busy, but I got tired of having to get in my car to go to activities and clubs at the 55+ development. Here, I only need to walk downstairs to find things to do,” she said.

Ferris moved to GreenFields during COVID, which she said was a challenge, but one for which she was grateful. When she was ready to move to GreenFields, her son drove her from Virginia so that she wouldn’t have to fly during the pandemic. “I have felt very safe,” she said.

When Ferris made the move in early April, all of the residents and associates at the senior living community had already had the opportunity to be completely vaccinated, so programs were cautiously opening up. “The timing was good. We had to wear masks but were able to go to activities and eat in the dining room.”

Ferris said her five months at GreenFields have been “wonderful. The food is good, I’ve put on weight! And I’ve met nice people and made some good friends; I was surprised at how quickly that happened. I’m on a couple of committees and keep as busy as I want to be. And I enjoy walking through the dining room and chatting with people,” she said. In addition,

Ferris said she plays bridge, enjoys Thirsty Thursday happy hours, joins women’s lunch outings, and finds plenty to read in the community’s library.

Ferris said that moving to a Life Plan Community, providing all levels of care, was essential to her. “If my health needs change, I don’t want to move completely again.”
Ferris said that the residents and staff at GreenFields are all fascinating and friendly. She added, “I’m really happy to be in this beautiful community.”

The community is equally as happy to have her living there. “I feel like Susanne has lived here forever. She is constantly out and about enjoying all GreenFields has to offer. Susanne has made so many friends in such a short amount of time, and is truly a great addition to our GreenFields family,” said Karen Tomko, life enrichment manager.
